the art & science of growing assets

Art & Science

Your firm has a brilliant systematic trading strategy. You have spent years perfecting your trading models and building infrastructure.

But that isn’t enough to guarantee success.

Asset growth requires business development as powerful as your trading systems. Business development requires cultivation of client relationships supported by cutting edge marketing.

We think of this as the art and science of growing assets.

The desert is a harsh environment.
Niche players excel here.

With careful planning, the right tools, and skillful execution it is a tremendously rewarding place.

If, like us, you see parallels between thriving in the desert and raising assets, contact us. We will make a difference.

I am not your traditional hedge funder: it’s been a long journey. The common thread is an obsession with systematic solutions to business problems: I like to make things work.

My career began as a chemical engineer building process control systems for oil refineries. After business school, I founded a management consulting firm. For 15 years I helped small manufacturers grow big.

The growth and collapse of the housing bubble sparked my interest in markets, and I was bitten by the trading bug. I built several trading systems, exploring statistics, optimization, and the dangers of complexity and curve fitting. If you want to talk the minutiae of our craft, I’m up for it.

Out of my trading system work, I developed statistical tools to help alternative investors delve deep into manager selection. After presenting these tools to The Bornhoft Group, a pioneer in multi-manager CTA funds, they offered me a position.

As chief operating officer, I learned what it takes to run a hedge fund on a day to day basis. As director of research, I examined the whole gamut of managed futures trading strategies. My experience with our managers taught me the importance of business development and investor relations.

Bridging the gap between technical expertise and business strategy is the next leg on my journey. Call me to discuss how I can help you on yours.

Ian
